THE FIRST set of traffic lights has been installed in the Glenties Municipal District in a bid to heighten the safety of the community.
The lights are located on Carnmore Road in Dungloe (An Clochán Liath) and Cllr Micheál Choilm mac Giolla Easbaig said there has been widespread delight among locals who have been waiting a “very long time” for a designated traffic light crossing.
Speaking about the busy N56, where the traffic lights are located, Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said that before the lights were installed there were long delays involved in crossing the road.
“This means now that there is a safe designated crossing,” he said.
“It is exciting as I have been pushing for this for a very long time and what it means now is that people can cross safely.
“These are the first traffic lights in the Glenties Municipal District and that really pleases me.”
Taking time to express his gratitude, Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig wished to thank the community and Cllr Noreen McGarvey.
However, he pointed out that there are other places in the MD that need a similar system.
Calling for designated traffic lights to be installed at Falcarragh (An Fál Carrach) main street and school, he said something needs to be done to make it safer for the school children and the general public.
