THIS week marked the start of a new beginning in Letterkenny as Cara House Family Resource Centre opened the doors of a brand new premises.
The new modern facility on the Pearse Road is now complete and opened its doors to the public on Monday with Cara House’s conversational group the first group to make use of the new facilities.
The centre will be in full operation within the next few weeks with an official opening planned for later in the year.
Courses and activities are currently limited but staff are already planning their extensive Autumn/Winter programme and the drop-in room is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm.
Courses and projects are set to be announced soon while plans are in place for a Women’s Shed and the ‘Senior Summer Project’ to get underway over the summer.
Speaking following the opening this week, Chairperson Joe Boland said it was good to see the doors open and to welcome old friends back in again.
“One of the women at the drop-in centre on Monday said she was so glad to see the place open again as it had been three years and two months since the last drop-in morning.
“She was just one of the many people who were glad to see the centre reopened again.
“There is a lot of new things coming to the centre so it is an exciting time and it is great to have the doors open,” said Mr Boland.
Cara House opened in May 2004 to provide a constructive and enjoyable space for people who have time on their hands in the daytime.
From opening just three evenings and one morning a week, Cara House now opens six days a week providing activities, courses and interest groups as well as many helpful services for the people of Letterkenny.
The centre also provides Cara Children’s Centre which offers state of the art childcare facilities for preschool children while also providing an afterschools club for Letterkenny pupils.
The centre is keen to hear from local people about any ideas or suggestions for courses or activities. For more information, visit Cara House Family Resource Centre or call (074) 912 3986.
