THE Covid-19 testing centre in Letterkenny is looking for a new home.
St Eunan’s GAA club pitches have been used by the HSE as a drive-through Covid-19 testing centre since March 27.
However, with GAA activities back in full swing at the Letterkenny venue, the HSE is looking at moving the test centre to another location.
“We are currently working with estates to identify a suitable alternative site that we can move to as quickly as possible and we are extremely grateful to St Eunan’s GAA and the wider Letterkenny community for the support they have given us to date,” a statement from the HSE read.
The test centre in Letterkenny has completed more than 3,000 tests, and includes the tests in St Conal’s before the move to O’Donnell park, over the past four months.
For the past seven days ending on Sunday last, July 19th, 219 tests were carried out at O’Donnell Park.
For the four weeks ending Sunday July 19th, 618 test were carried out.
Given that Letterkenny has the facilities in place to carry out 300 tests per day, it is currently working at little more than ten per cent capacity.
Covid-19 testing ceased at a second Donegal venue, the Lakeside Camping and Caravan Centre, Ballyshannon, in early June.
At present, a team of forty health care professionals – made up of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and dieticians – carry out the tests in Letterkenny.
They are supplemented by members of the local St Eunan’s GAA club who provide volunteers to look after traffic management while the Civil Defence provide vehicular support.
