WORK is to commence on the building of a brand new 24-classroom Educate Together School in Letterkenny, it has been confirmed this week.
Construction is set to begin in November on the new school building. It will be located in Gortlee close to the former UNIFI site.
It is understood that works are scheduled to take just over one year and the new school will open in September of 2016.
Welcoming the news, Minister of State Joe McHugh, said he had received confirmation from the Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan, that funding would be committed by the Department for the building of the school.
“This is very positive news, with the Educate Together Letterkenny project being chosen as an part of the new schools programme for 2015.
“The new school is set to have 24 class rooms and will enable a larger intake of pupils. The addition of new facilities to accommodate children with special needs will greatly enhance the school’s pupil capacity.”
Deputy McHugh said that the new school would accommodate a larger quantity of students from both Letterkenny and from the surrounding areas.
