LETTERKENNY’S own Mary Bates has just recently secured a record deal with UK based MCS records.
Mary, who had just started singing in 2023, has proven that it’s never too late to give up on a dream with her astonishing rise up the industry.
Mary travelled to Portsmouth recently where she recorded 19 original songs in just four days at Man Cave Studios, each of which was written by Mary herself with her partner and collaborator Malcolm Fisher composing all the melodies.
Malcolm, who joined Mary in Portsmouth, recorded four tracks for himself, all of which were yet again written by Mary and composed by Malcom, the strength of their musical and emotional partnership was put on show for all to see.
What began as a chance to document her work quickly snowballed into a life-changing moment. The MCS crew were taken aback by Mary’s distinctive voice, heartfelt lyrics and rapid rise to such an extent that the Letterkenny woman was offered a deal on the spot.
With the label now handling all of her promotion, releases and career progression Mary was over the moon with this new jump in her career growth.
“Until a few years ago, I’d never even held a microphone” Mary said.
“To now be a signed artist with 53 of my own songs recorded is unbelievable. I
“I’m so thankful to Malcolm for encouraging me every step of the way – he recorded 13 of my own songs – and to everyone out there who’s been cheering me on.”
Malcolm added: “Mary’s passion, talent and determination has amazed me from day one. I am proud to create melodies for her lyrics and to stand beside her in the studio.
“What she has achieved in such a short space of time is nothing short of incredible”.
Mary’s story has been, and no doubt will continue to be, an inspiration to her community, a shining example of how far belief, hard work, and the right support can take you.
