NEW plans have been lodged for a major housing development in Letterkenny previously refused following residents’ objections.
Applicant PJ McDermott is seeking planning permission from Donegal County Council for the development of 260 residential units, a créche and a large shop, at Glencar Irish and Glencar Scotch.
According to submitted plans, the proposed development comprises 100 dwellings and 160 apartments, a neighbourhood centre containing a shop unit and a créche.
Construction of two new roads from the Grange Road, an internal distributor road and service road, amenity open spaces, play areas and all associated site development works, including connection to existing public services, footpaths, car parking and cycle paths, are contained within proposals.
An Ecological Impact Assessment Report (ECIAR), an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening report, a Construction Environmental and Traffic Management Plan are among the reports which accompany the proposed planning permission application.
In June of last year, An Coimisiún Pleanála reversed a decision by Donegal County Council to give planning permission to Mr McDermott for a large scale development, comprising 180 residential units, at the same site.
The Old Glencar Road, Solomon’s Grove and Upper Fernhill Residents’ Associations had lodged an objection with the national independent planning authority following the granting of planning permission by Donegal County Council for the development – one of the largest Letterkenny will potentially see in years.
Applicant PJ McDermott had lodged plans with Donegal County Council in May 2023 for the development in Glencar Irish and Glencar Scotch, Letterkenny, over a 10-year period.
Submissions to the latest plans are being accepted until Tuesday, September 9. Donegal County Council will make its decision on September 30, 2025.
