A NEW road through the former Unifi factory site on the outskirts of Letterkenny was officially opened to the public this morning.
The ribbon was cut on the ‘Unifi Link Road’ by the Mayor of the Letterkenny Municipal District, Councillor James Pat McDaid.
The new 330 metre route connects the Lisnennan road with the Kiltoy road through the former Unifi site and will also be the access road to the proposed new Letterkenny Educate Together (LET) primary school.
Work is ongoing on a new roundabout at Kiltoy. When completed in the New Year, this will result in the closing of the problematic T-junction at the bottom of the Business Park Road and Lisnennan Road, providing a straight route through the roundabout on to the Kiltoy Road.
Speaking at today’s official opening, Cllr McDaid said the new road is the first one to open in the town for a number of years and will prove “valuable” in helping traffic flow.
“This is a step in the right direction and will be vital for the new LET school,” Cllr McDaid said.
