MORE than 450 new social homes are currently under construction at a variety of locations around the county as Donegal County Council continues to drive a major building programme in a bid to reduce the number of people on housing waiting lists.
In recent weeks, foundation works have commenced on 60 housing units at Lifford Common, the biggest in a new wave of “on-site” projects while foundation works have also commenced on 30 properties in phase three of the Cois Abhainn development in St Johnston.
Some 54 new homes in Buncrana are at blockwork stage with 43 in Dungloe well advanced, and some being roofed.
A further 42 new units in Bundoran are at the roofing stage while 18 of the 30 houses being built at Oranhill in Letterkenny have been roofed.
Details of all the projects that are classed as being “on-site” were circulated to councillors at a recent special council meeting on social housing.
A number of developments are being built with housing associations, including 34 in Castlefin, 30 in Convoy, 22 at Killylastin in Letterkenny, and eight in Dungloe (Fairhill Lodge).
Other new home projects are also advancing in Barrack Hill, Carndonagh (21), Machair Chochair, Gaoth Dobhair (18), and Tamney (10).
There are also small developments of less than ten units in Ballybofey (Donegal Road), Letterkenny (Windyhall, and Killylastin), Malin (Radharc Na Tra Breige), plus SI houses in Urris, Ballyliffin, Letterkenny and Annargry.
