A new area of parking which has created 60 extra spaces for vehicles has opened at Glenveagh National Park.
The new development is a fantastic addition to the centre and will help address parking problems that in recent years had become a major issue at the facility.
Indeed in some of the busiest times at Glenveagh, visitors were forced to park on the main road outside the park’s entrance, leading to all sorts of issues and dangers on what’s a busy road.
Now however, the development of extra spaces will go some way to addressing the parking issues.
The new parking area is adjacent to the old car park which has 220 car parking spaces along with an area for buses and coaches.
That means almost 300 spaces are now available for visitors.
Easter traditionally marks the start of the busy tourist season and according to Glenveagh National Park Foreman Denis Lafferty, the opening of the new car park area is most welcome.
“It’s something that was badly needed and we’re delighted with the result,” he said.
The work was carried out by Glenveagh staff members who were assisted by machine operators from Sheridan Developments.
The car park was designed by Carr Consulting Engineers.
There are plans in place for the overall redevelopment of the car park area which will generate up to 500 spaces – but that development is unlikely to be started for a number of years.
