GARDAÍ in Donegal have launched a phone line dedicated to the reporting of Covid-19 breaches.
The force said the number will make it easier for people to let officers know about events including:
Young people organising parties amongst themselves at various locations and this includes beach parties
Birthday/ Occasion Parties being organised for all ages
Older Secondary School Pupils congregating socially
Wakes being held in contravention of Guidelines and social gatherings being organised after funerals
“In order to make it easier for people to let An Garda Síochána in Donegal know about such events they become aware of we have set up a dedicated reporting line at Letterkenny Garda Station,” said a Garda spokesperson.
“The number is 074 9167101 and anybody who becomes aware of a party or other event that is being organised or who knows that a party or other event is taking place should phone this number.
“People can still contact their local Garda Station if they wish to or in an emergency call 999 or 112 and they can also use the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 to report matters.”
Gardaí added that the information they give will be treated with the strictest confidence and they will not be required to give their name if they do not wish to. Details provided will be checked out and if found to be correct appropriate action will be taken.
“If someone reports an event that is being planned we will do everything we can to stop the event happening.
“We must emphasise that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect themselves and their families from the COVID-19 virus and the best way to do this is to comply with the Government guidelines.”
