PLANS have been lodged with Donegal County Council for a new funeral home at Carnamuggagh in Letterkenny.

The planning application is in the name of Michael Morning and it includes a car parking area and connection to local services.

The planning application was lodged on May 22 however, no details are available on the council website as the application has not yet been validated.

According to the site a decision is due on July 16. Speaking to the Donegal News this week Mr Morning said that they plan to build a larger purpose built facility on their site adjoining Hegarty’s Garage.

The existing Eternal Light Chapel of Rest is at Gleann Tain, Carnamuggagh Upper. The current funeral home is owned by Mr Morning and is used by numerous funeral directors.

“Over recent years there has been a trend of people having fewer wakes and using funeral homes more. There will be more room in the new facility and increased car parking at the new site. There will be a smaller area accommodating around 30 people for family viewings and where family may wish to spend time with a deceased loved one. There will also be a larger area which will accommodate up to 80 people. The facility is available to all.

“We are not undertakers. We provide services to funeral directors locally and further afield. We work behind the scenes. If planing goes through smoothly we would hope to start construction next year,” Mr Morning added.
