WORK is due to start within weeks on a major new housing development for Letterkenny, it has emerged.
Planning permission was previously granted for the 174-unit residential development by GDC Ireland limited on a site at Creevesmith.
With a gross development value of €50 million, the new development is due to commence in January, with Phase 1 house sales launching in spring next year and new homeowners expected to receive keys to their new home in spring 2020.
The Crieve Mór development will comprise a mix of three and four bed detached and semi-detached dwellings with a small number of two bed apartments and a creche.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Mr Daniel Doherty, Managing Director, GDC Limited (George Doherty Construction Limited) said the development will offer much-needed housing to the local Letterkenny community.
“While the market remains extremely challenging we’re fortunate enough to have ongoing operations in Letterkenny and we’re building a product that the market place likes. We’ve built a strong reputation for developing high quality homes and we’ll continue that in this latest development in the Oldtown area for the forseeable future,” Mr Doherty explained.
Previous GDC projects in Letterkenny include Droim Ard Avenue, Leitir Ard, Leitir Beag and Rann Mór which is nearing completion.
“We’ve made a number of amendments, alterations and improvements to our existing planning application which wil be known as Crieve Mór. Groundworks are ongoing and we envisage ramping up building works on site over the coming weeks.
“We propose to complete the development over three or four phases over the next three to four years. GDC has built a good reputation in that area of Letterkenny over the past fourteen years and this is an extension of that package.
“We see Crieve Mór as being a new standard of what we call Next Generation homes – energy efficient, A-rated homes. We’re excited about sustaining our operation in Letterkenny into the fuiture,” Mr Doherty said.
To date, the company has built approximately 300 houses in Letterkenny.
