DONEGAL Youth Councillors will meet with new Donegal County Council Mayor Ian McGarvey in the County House, Lifford, today.
The Youth Council will be seeking Mayor McGarvey’s support for a number of initiatives they are working on in 2013, including a youth mental health roadshow later this year, where they plan to run events for over 1000 young people from all over the county in five different locations.
The young councillors, who are from a variety of locations from all over Donegal, are holding their meeting in the Chamber in Lifford after being invited to do so by Donegal County Council.
Junior Mayor Aine McLaughlin says the group are really looking forward to it. “The youth councillors are really excited about meeting in the chamber today. It’s been a really busy year so far and we have plenty of work to get on with. We are also looking forward to meeting Mayor McGarvey to seek his support on a number of projects we are working on.”
Donegal Youth Council is funded by Donegal County Council, HSE Health Promotion and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and aims to provide young people with opportunities to identify, prioritise and work on topics and projects which have been identified by the wider youth population of the county and also to provide young people with opportunities to have their voice heard by being involved in the development of local services and policies which affect them.
Donegal Youth Council is co-ordinated at local level by the Donegal Youth Service. For more information you can contact Donegal Youth Council Co-ordinator Marty Keeney on 087-6806676 or email youthcouncil@donegalyouthservice.ie.
