A NEW notice board at the gates of Dunfanaghy Presbyterian Church has been dedicated in memory of Georgena Sterritt – a former member of the church congregation.
Mrs Sterritt, from Casey, Dunfanaghy, had been a member of the congregation since 1972 when she married Leslie Sterritt. She passed away in 2022.
The mahogany notice board, which was funded by Mr Sterritt, was recently dedicated by the Rev David Brice.
Mr Brice, the winter assistant minister at Dunfanaghy and Carrigart, paid tribute to Mrs Sterritt, noting that she had for many years been a Sunday School teacher.
Mrs Sterritt, who attended Ballymore Church of Ireland until her marriage, ran the Playhouse Crèche in the centre of Dunfanaghy and was a book-keeper for Mr Sterritt’s garage business.
Mrs Sterritt, who died on September 3, 2022, is survived by her husband Leslie and their three children, Marie Brennan, Tania Boss and Graham Sterritt.
Marie read a lesson at the dedication service in Dunfanaghy Presbyterian Church.
Mr Brice, whose tenure ended on April 28, expressed thanks on behalf of the congregation to Mr Sterritt for his generosity.
He said the notice board, which replaces a somewhat dilapidated signboard, would act as a valuable wayside pulpit for the church.
“It means we can publicise the Sunday services and other posters which we hope will catch the eye of passers-by,” he said.
The tribute to Mrs Georgena Sterritt reads: “A heart of gold, a love, sincere, beautiful memories keep you near. Always loved and missed forever.”
