HIDDEN Donegal showcases the natural beauty of Donegal through black and white photographs combined with a collection of poetry from almost 30 individual Donegal Poets.
Hidden Donegal is the second book Michael Sugrue has produced since he reconnected with Donegal 14 years ago after spending 20 years in Sydney.
His previous book, Donegal’s Atlantic Way, sold over 2,500 copies raising €30,000 for local charities.
Michael, who is probably better known as a breast surgeon, lives in Ramelton with his wife Pauline, both of whom are outdoor enthusiasts.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Michael said he loves nothing more than to get outdoors, as the Galway native believes Donegal is the nicest county in Ireland.
“I set off with my two cameras, my tripod and my drone. In total my equipment weighs 11kg, it is great exercise but I have fun too,” he said.
The self-taught landscape photographer has compiled almost 200 photographs showcasing perspectives of Donegal in collaboration with many Donegal poets, reflecting the county’s literary and artistic heritage.
With poetry from professional poets, celebrity poets and people that just like to dabble in poetry, there is great variety throughout the book.
Hidden Donegal is €40 and proceeds raised will aid Donegal Hospice, Donegal Clinical Research Academy and Breast Centre Northwest Research.

Hidden Donegal will be formally launched on Saturday, December 3, at 8pm at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.
On the night there will be a fusion of poetry, music and photography.
Irish Folk Singer, Moya Brennan will be preforming alongside Aisling Jarvis, Paul Jarvis and Clann Mhic Ruairí which will be followed by a number of poetry recitals.
A photographic exhibition is now open in the Regional Cultural Centre containing some photographs by Michael Sugrue for anyone that fancies a sneak peak of ‘Hidden Donegal’.
