A NEW arts festival for County Donegal officially opens this Thursday with events taking place through the county.
Remote Photo is a new international photography festival, dedicated to photographers creating work in a remote or rural context.
“We created the festival as an invitation to the photographic community to come together in a unique location, away from the usual distractions of large urban areas, but with its own bedrock of resilient artistic endeavour,” said Paul McGuckin, Festival Director.
The festival has a packed schedule to demonstrate that with events taking place at An Grianán Theatre, The County Museum, HOUSE Wine Bar & Taproom, Café Blend, LYIT and the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny, The Exchange in Buncrana and Fort Dunree, Inishowen.
Festival highlights include a range of talks, workshops and exhibitions sure to interest professional and amateur photographers alike including a talk and Q&A with Donovan Wylie; Portfolio reviews by Source Magazine; Street Photography Masterclasses with Damaso Reyes; The Gallery of Photography’s Summer School Snippet; The Feminist Lens Exhibition and Talk and The Photo Album of Ulster.
Artists exhibiting during the Remote Photo festival include Peter Neill, Alex Boyd, Yvette Monahan, Shane Lynam, Linda Brownlee, Simon Burch, Kenneth O’Halloran, Damaso Reyes, Clare Gallagher, Emma Campbell & Laura O’Connor.
The festival will also see the unveiling of the Remote Prize, showcasing stunning new work from a range of global artists.
And, finally, Ciarán Óg Arnold – who was recently announced as the winner of the MACK First Book Award – will share some insights at the festival’s photobook event.
