A NEIGHBOUR has been charged with the murder of a 61-year-old Gaoth Dobhair grandmother in Scotland.
Clare Kilduff (37) made no plea during the private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, the Daily Record has reported.
Kilduff was remanded in custody with the case submitted for further examination by prosecutors.
Ms Coll, a mother-of-three, was found with serious head injuries at a flat in Newfield Place, Rutherglen, on Friday, December 22, 2023. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her death was initially treated as “unexplained” pending the results of a post mortem.
A murder investigation subsequently got underway.
Officers carried out door to door enquiries in a bid to get answers.
Detectives in the case claim Ms Coll was the victim of a “violent attack”.
They had desperately appealed for information from the local community.
Ann, originally from Gaoth Dobhair, was captured on CCTV entering a local shop the day before she died, as officers attempted to track her last known movements.
A heavy police presence remained at the scene, with bags of evidence and doors removed from her flat.
Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters previously assured the local community that her officers were working hard to find out what happened.
“Ann’s family are absolutely heartbroken and devastated with the news that Ann has passed away under the circumstances in which that has taken place, but they’re pulling together as a family. It’s a real family unit.
”Ann is well known across the local community and was someone who loved to walk her collie dog Lola around the area. The community, as ever, always step up.
”They’ve been very supportive of the investigation, and happy to engage with us, which is really positive, but obviously, I would still appeal to them to come forward. If there’s anything, regardless of how small,” she said.
A fundraiser was later launched on behalf of her family – raising over £7,000 within days. Following her death, Ann, a grandmother of eight, was described as someone who “touched the hearts of all around her”.
A statement on the GoFundMe page read: “We are looking to raise funds on behalf of Kris, Nicola, Stephanie and all of their family following the tragic death of their beautiful mum, Ann.
“Ann was a much loved mum, gran, sister, auntie and friend and was adored by all that knew her. She touched the hearts of all around her and will never ever be forgotten.
“Anything you can donate, no matter how big or small, would make a massive difference during this horrific time, ensuring Ann gets the send off she deserves.”
