NAOMH Padraig, Muff have been asked to put in writing their complaints over an incident during a recent Northern Board Under-14 Division 1 League final and certain aspects of the procedure in dealing with it.
During their final clash with Sean MacCumhaills in Convoy on May 7th, a Muff player was shown a straight red card for an alleged strike.
“The referee confirmed that he took advice from a neutral umpire, but we discovered that the so-called ‘neutral’ umpire was a MacCumhaills club member and also that he was a relative of one of the MacCumhaills players,” Naomh Padraig, Muff delegate, Dermot McColgan, told Tuesday’s county committee meeting.
“There was no mention of having consulted an umpire in the referee’s report. Why wasn’t it mentioned in the report that he was sent off on the word of an umpire?
“Our player was banned for a game. We appealed it but we weren’t successful so our player missed the Division 1 county semi-final.
“When we appealed, it was our word against the word of the referee so obviously we lost the appeal.”
The Muff delegate said his club had contacted the Northern Board to enquire if they needed to provide an umpire for the game, but were told the officials were ‘all sorted’.
The ire of the Inishowen club was raised further when it emerged that one of the members of the County Hearings Committee who heard their appeal is also a member of the MacCumhaills club.
Mr McColgan said: “We are angry with the way this has been dealt with.”
County Chairman Sean Dunnion advised them to put their complaint in writing to the Board.
