Downings 1-15 Naomh Muire 2-14
Naomh Muire held off a spirited Downings fightback to seal promotion to Division 1 after a lively play-off at the Bridge this evening.
Naomh Muire started very well and raced into a 1-5 to 0-1 lead with Cathal Fee scoring a major.
Kyle McFadden then hit back with a three-pointer.
However, a goal of the season contender from Eoin Martin helped Naomh Muire into a 2-10 to 1-3 lead at the break.
Downings didn’t give up and Johnny McGroddy was outstanding as he pulled his team back into contention.
Paddy McElwee also finished strongly and his score in the 64th minute left just one points between the sides.
Downings were desperate to get another score but were then caught out when they only left two players up the field and a breach was called.
Eoin Martin supplied the insurance score and there was delight for Naomh Muire at the full-time whistle.
