AMID growing uncertainty, appeals, and GAA committee hearings; the Donegal SFC final meeting between reigning champions Glenswilly and neighbours St Eunan’s will go ahead as planned on Sunday afternoon, throw-in 4pm.
However, this afternoon officials from the Naomh Conaill club in Glenties confirmed that they are to appeal to the Ulster Council a decision by Donegal’s Competition Control Committee late on Wednesday night to throw out their objection after last Sunday’s senior football semi-final loss to Glenswilly.
Their appeal centred around a yellow card to Glenswilly player, Ciaran Bonner, and a subsequent black card which should have seen him sent off without a replacement.
The Glenties club can appeal the County Board decision to the Ulster Council and ultimately to the GAA’s hierarchy in Croke Park. The club was livid that by 1pm yesterday they still hadn’t received any formal notification by the Donegal County Board as to the grounds on which their objection failed.
“It’s an absolute disgrace that at 1pm this afternoon we have still to formally hear, in writing, what rule or rules our objection failed,” David Kelch, Naomh Conaill County Board delegate said.
Meanwhile, Glenswilly have appealed both the black card awarded to Bonner and the straight red card shown to team captain Caolan Kelly late on. Those appeals were formally lodged with the relevant authorities on Wednesday night.
