Naomh Columba celebrate Monday's win.
Naomh Columba 2-14 Naomh Bríd 4-05
NAOMH Columba took home the under 16 division 2 regional title on Monday evening, overcoming Naomh Bríd in a fast paced affair in Dunkineely.
A Pauric O’Neill goal put the Glen lads in front in the opening minute, and they soon added a further three points from play to open a decent gap.
There were nine minutes on the clock before the Ballintra man registered their first point, but this was quickly followed by a goal to bring them firmly back into the game. A further two points saw both sides level with 22 minutes on the clock. The Glen men then started the onslaught however, and a goal from Pauric Cunningham and six unanswered points from play saw them going into half time with a 2-9 to 1-3 lead.
The opening ten minutes of the second half saw just a single score, with a further point from Naomh Columba.
Ballintra soon found the net again, and added a point from play, while Glen managed another two points to leave an eight point gap with 9 minutes left on the clock.
The Naomh Bríd lads had developed an appetite for goals however, and a very crowded goal mouth saw them sneak the ball past Pádraig Byrne twice in the dying minutes.
Naomh Columba added a further two points to ease the pressure somewhat, but a further Ballintra point, and considerable injury time made for nail-biting stuff in the dying minutes. Glen held on to the win however, and it was a jubilant travelling support that joined the lads on the pitch after the final whistle.
