A SPECIAL performance filmed at An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny will be featured on national television this Sunday as part of the music series Ceol ón Earagail – Abair Amhrán.
The programme celebrates the Irish songbook ‘Abair Amhrán’ and is presented by singer Sibéal Ní Chasaide.
It explores this collection of songs first published over 60 years ago, including well-known tunes like Báidín Fheidhlimí, Buachaill ón Éirne, An Cailín Álainn, and more.
The programme features performances from Donegal group, ’Na Casaidaigh’, as well as Marcus Ó Murchú, his wife Caitríona and daughter Róise.
Other performers include Emma Ní Fhíoruisce, Connor Ó Gallachóir, and Donegal singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.
‘Abair Amhrán,’ first published in 1962, is filled with songs many will recognise from their childhood. Seven editions were released between 1962 and 1978, but copies became scarce over time.
Sibéal Ní Chasaide learned many of these songs from her father’s old copy. Now, a new edition has been printed with additional verses.
Tune in to TG4 this Sunday at 21:30 for a journey through the songs of ‘Abair Amhrán,’ filmed in Letterkenny.
