THE outpouring of goodwill from throughout the country demonstrates the high standing that Michael Murphy has held in Gaelic Games over the last 15 years.
Of course he has always been revered in Donegal, and it didn’t take last Wednesday’s retirement announcement to recognise his powers.
A litany of exemplary league and championship performances are only part of the reason why he rightfully commands such esteem.
It has as much and more to do with the way he carried himself in the green and gold shirt. Modest and considerate, he always fronted up on good days and the not so good days, and remains a fantastic ambassador for the county.
