Rory Gallagher’s Donegal set up very defensively in the first half and managed to frustrate their opponents. Murphy, Eamon McGee, Rory Kavanagh, and Patrick McBrearty scored points in the first half, but they still trailed by a point at the break.

The visitors kicked the first two scores of the second half through McBrearty (free) and Odhrán MacNiallais, but Dublin hit back with two of their own before both teams were reduced to 14 men in the 52nd minute when James McCarthy and Murphy picked up second yellow cards.

Donegal tried to keep with their opponents, but tiredness eventually kicked in, and Dublin sealed their victory when Philly McMahon found the net in the 65th minute.
