THE heartbroken mother of a talented Ramelton musician who lost his life in a car collision days before Christmas is behind a fundraiser in his memory.
Paul Mooney (30), late of Glen Lower, died in a two-car collision on the N14 Letterkenny to Lifford Road at Carrickballydoey on Monday, December 18.
A loving son, brother, partner and friend, Paul was also a well-known and much loved musician and music producer.
At his funeral in St Mary’s Church in Ramelton, Fr Michael Carney told the hundreds of grief-stricken mourners who had gathered in disbelief and grief how Paul found refuge and direction in music.
On the day before what would have been Paul’s 31st birthday on Thursday, February 15, his mum, Gwen Mooney, launched a special fundraiser in his memory to raise funds for The Loft, which Paul held close to his heart.
“As you know at his funeral, donations in lieu of flowers were towards Elevate 55 otherwise known locally as The Loft. Many people have asked us for an option to provide an online donation so we decided to do this in his memory for his birthday.
“The Loft is a local youth support /drop in service proving supports for young people experiencing difficulties in their life with issues such as bullying, grief, sexuality, family conflict, school, friendship/relationship difficulties or other struggles.
“Paul was involved with the loft for many years and always spoke highly and fondly of his involvement and the positive impact it has on young people.”
