THE multi-million euro development of the Century Complex got underway in Letterkenny this week with the new 22,000 foot development expected to open in October 2024.
Owner Mark Doherty said that once completed the enlarged complex with a range of new facilities including indoor crazy golf, will employ in excess of 100 people.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week he explained that the project had been delayed by more than a year because of Covid-19.
“We had to renew the planning for the extension after it ran out during Covid. We believe the demand is there for a whole new range of entrainments for families.
“The indoor crazy golf will be the first of its kind in Ireland. Other new developments we are keeping under wraps at present.
“Demand for the cinema is currently strong and it is anticipated that the Barbie movie will become Ireland’s highest box office success,” he said.
Local contractors Dorrian Construction are undertaking the work on the extension which was designed by MH Associates Limited.
“We are very excited about the development and how it will increase the number and range of attractions at Century Cinema, Century Play and Backstage Bar and Grill.
“The focus will remain on family entertainment and we believe the crazy golf will be a huge draw for teens and older customers.
“It is a major investment in Letterkenny and will make us one of the biggest family entertainment centres in the north west. We are looking to the future and providing a whole range of entertainment for our expanding population,” he added.
