Mr Chippie owners expand ‘Stateside’

THE well-known Mr Chippie’s two restaurants and take aways are adding a new value for money diner having taken over the premises formerly occupied by Stateside at Letterkenny Riverside Retail Park.

The new value-for-money restaurant ‘Smokes and Grills Family Restaurant’ will open next Wednesday with an eclectic menu to suit a whole range of tastes. What is sure to grab attention is the fact they will be offering a 10 oz steak with all the trimmings and pepper sauce for a highly competitive price of €13.95.

Speaking to the Donegal News this week owners Aileen and Sotaris Afxentiou were excited about their new venture adding to their now three strong restaurant chain. Son Andreas runs the outlet at the Mountain Top.

“It is official this week that we are taking over the unit where Stateside was and opening our own diner. Stateside is now closed. ‘Smokes and Grills Family Restaurant’ will be more of an upgrade from our Mr Chippie outlets at station Roundabout and the Mountain Top. It will be more Texan style with BBQ food but it will still serve the great fish and chips we are well known for. We are just waiting for our full licence to come through,” Aileen explained.

She added that they have retained all of the 15 staff previously employed there acknowledging that hospitality staff are difficult to recruit at present. The interior decor will remain relatively unchanged for now.

Sotaris is a Greek Cypriot who came to Donegal 25 years ago and married Aileen (nee O’Hara). He stressed how family orientated the ‘Smokes and Grill Family Restaurant ‘ will be with an emphasis on fresh as well as value.

“We will be the cheapest restaurant in Letterkenny by a mile with prices families can afford. An example of this will be children’s meals at up to €5 each. With three children and two adults they can have a meal and drinks for less than €55. We will open Wednesdays through Sunday and close Monday and Tuesday. We are very excited about this new project and look forward to welcoming our new and old customers,” Sotaris added.
