Moya Doherty is latest ambassador for Donegal Gathering

RIVERDANCE producer Moya Doherty has recently been announced as the latest ambassador for the Donegal Gathering.
Moya is best known as the co-founder of the theatrical success story and worldwide phenomenon that is Riverdance, a show that has been seen by over 22 million people in 32 countries.
The following is a very touching and heartfelt description written by Moya about what coming home to Donegal means to her.
“Through Strabane and into Lifford on to Dungloe, home at last. The heart picks up the beat of history, the beat of memory.
“Snaking along the Finn River valley, as the sun settles after a struggle of a day in the sky.

Granny will be at the Corner House, waiting at the door, her apron traced with flour from the soda bread in the range, her silver hair netted framing her fresh Donegal complexion.
“The sound of her voice as she drawls her English through the tongue of her native Irish rhythm, the haze of the turf smoking, the whiskey wafting from the pub next door, the aroma of leather coming through the hatch from the shoe shop on the east side of the gable wall.
“Memories of a homecoming. Memories of a gathering. Time to gather again, always time to gather in Donegal, to celebrate, to reflect, to enjoy, to bond, to be at peace”.
Mr Paddy Harte, Chairman for the Donegal Gathering, said we in Donegal can be very proud to have Moya Doherty represent us as an ambassador.
“With so many of our friends and family coming home for Christmas, Moya’s words resonate as a beautiful expression of a Donegal homecoming,” Mr Harte said.
“Although Moya is one of Ireland’s most successful business women, she has always stayed true to her Donegal roots. Indeed, she credits her phenomenal work ethic to the traditions handed down in the Northwest”.
2013 promises to be one of the most exciting years this country has ever seen.  Donegal has been leading the way with over 120 gatherings planned making it the fourth largest contributor in Ireland.
Aside from the exciting events, Donegal can be very proud of the growing army of ambassadors that are promoting this county on the global stage.
So spread the word and get prepared for the year of excitement ahead.
