Moves to stimulate Donegal’s ‘sleeping giant’

Recent figures estimated that the sector was worth over €20million to the local economy and employed in the region of 1,000 people.

In an attempt to further harness the potential of the sector a special one-day conference organised by the Cultural Resources Forum of the Donegal County Development Board will take place in Ballybofey on October 4.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Ms Terre Duffy, Donegal Public Art Manager and a member of the Cultural Resources Forum, said the timing of the event was apt as the country grapples with the global economic downturn and explores new ways of creating employment.

“When we talk about the Creative Industries we’re talking about arts, literature, crafts, digital media, music, visual arts, performance arts and festivals.

“The latest figures we have available estimate there are over 1,000 people working in this sector in Donegal,” she said.
