Motorists urged to stay safe over Easter weekend

MOTORISTS are being urged to act responsibly ahead of what is traditionally one of the busiest weekends on the county’s roads.

There have been four fatalities on Donegal’s roads this year and 38 lives lost nationally.

Donegal County Council’s Road Safety Officer, Brian O’Donnell, said the last thing anyone wanted was for that figure to rise.

“As we head into the Easter Bank Holiday weekend I would appeal to all road users to play their part in keeping our roads safe,” Mr O’Donnell said.

“This Easter weekend many families will be travelling on our roads and I want to urge all road users to make safety their number one priority. Nothing is more important than the safety of the people who travel on our road network. Too often drivers think it will not happen to them, which is not true. It only takes one driver who is reckless, to cause a collision on the road.

“We want to urge all drivers to be respectful of others, do not take chances on the roads, and to think of the consequences of your actions. Above all, we want everyone who is on the road during this Easter period to arrive at their destinations safely, and to return safely afterwards. Responsibility must fall on each and every road user.”
