Motorists are urged to take care on the roads today as frosty and icy conditions are reported across the county. A status yellow snow and ice warning for Donegal, along with 19 other counties, was issued from Met Eireann yesterday evening, which is valid until 9pm tonight (Thursday) but is expected to be extended.
A spokesperson from AA Roadwatch reminded the public to drive with extra care, especially on higher ground and that stopping distances are up to ten times longer in snow or ice.
“In Donegal, Gardai are reporting icy conditions on the Letterkenny/Glenties Road between Glen Swilly and Fintown. Particular care is needed at Meedaroy,” they added.
Temperatures will remain at 1-2 degrees celsius throughout the day with frost and ice forming again tonight. For a time today there could be accumulations of up to 3cm of snow in parts of the county, particularly in higher ground. Temperatures will remain low tomorrow, dropping to 0 degrees celcius on Saturday morning.
