DERRY and Raphoe Mothers’ Union have presented beautiful handmade items to Altnagelvin Hospital’s Emergency Department and Maternity Wards.
The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) gratefully acknowledges a kind donation of beautiful handmade items from Derry and Raphoe Mothers’ Union.
The group have provided 274 emergency wash bags and 1,241 hand crafted items to the Western Trust. These included knits for premature babies, comfort teddies for children and fiddle muffs and knee mats for adults.
Jacqui Armstrong, Diocesan President, Derry and Raphoe Mothers’ Union (MU) commented: “We so appreciate the daily input and work ethic of the staff and look forward to our regular liaison with Altnagelvin Area Hospital. Our MU vision aims to connect, to uplift and to assist in times of adversity.
It is our chance to be active in supporting and in giving back in love to our community, whilst at the same time enhancing the well being of patients, staff and our own members. It’s a win win situation.”
Geoff Hunter, Volunteering and Work Experience Manager for the Western Trust said the items have been meticulously crafted and prepared by the members of the Derry and Raphoe Mothers’ Union and are an invaluable resource.
“The emergency wash bags are incredibly useful for people arriving to hospital unexpectedly and the knits are greatly appreciated in our wards. A sincere thank you to all the Mothers’ Union members that take time and dedication to prepare these items for donation to the Trust.”
