THE mother of Leona Harper, one of the ten people killed in the Creeslough disaster, has said she’s “horrified” to learn of plans to rebuild commercial units on the site of the 2022 tragedy.

Donna Harper said she would prefer to see the location turned into a memorial site for those who died there.

Mrs Harper claims those behind the proposed development called to her home in Letterkenny this week to tell her family of their plans.

However, she claims they were unwilling to reveal a timeframe for construction or whether the planning permission process had begun.

“They told me they want to build a shop on the exact same spot where my Leona lost her life along with nine other people,” she said. “I told them that I know the exact location where Leona lost her life. They’re proposing to build a shop where people could be walking over the spot my daughter died.”
