Mother and son are left in limbo

by Louise Doyle

A DISTRAUGHT mother of a boy with a complex condition has spoken of how her family has been left in limbo after being told her son has no place in Little Angels Special School in Letterkenny for September.

Aoife Dorrian and her family are among nine Donegal families who have been informed by the Special Educational Needs Organiser (SENO) that despite being directed to send their children to Little Angels, the school cannot accommodate them.

The parents have launched a Facebook campaign called ‘Don’t Forget Our Little Angels for September 2025’ to highlight the matter.

In December, the Donegal News first revealed concerns had emerged that the new state-of-the-art Little Angels School in Letterkenny will not have enough classrooms to meet demand when it opens shortly.

The new school has been built on land between the Donegal Hospice and the Business Park Road, close to the current school building in Knocknamona.

Aoife’s son, Casey, is four years old. He has Timothy syndrome, a rare disorder that primarily affects the heart but can also affect other areas of the body.

Speaking to the Donegal News, a worried Aoife said that without a place in Little Angels her son will not be able to go to school.
