More wet and windy weather on the way

MET Éireann has warned of very wet and windy weather for Donegal on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meteorologist Aoife Kealy told the Donegal News yesterday that a low pressure system approaching from the Atlantic will bring very unsettled conditions over the coming days.

“There is some uncertainly on where that low pressure will track and will end up. It is an unsettled picture,” she said.

“There is a band of heavy rain coming up on Tuesday with a chance of heavy showers on Tuesday afternoon and moving into the evening. There will be further heavy showers on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. There is a slight chance of wintery flurries over high ground.

“It is going to be quite wet and winds will pick up a bit as the low pressure comes in.”

Forecasters have been closely monitoring models ahead of the arrival of the low pressure system amid concerns that the first storm of the season could hit in the coming days as a system develops in the Atlantic.

However there is still uncertainty as to how this low pressure will develop and the public is being encouraged to keep an eye on Met Éireann’s website for updates.

Conditions are set to improve on Thursday and Friday when winds will ease off.
