FIDDLER Matt McGranaghan, guitarist Joe Meehan and flute player Claude Morice have been added to the bill for the Skinner Concert in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny tonight.
All three have released solo recordings and toured internationally.
The Skinner Concert is being held to raise funds for a statue of the renowned Scottish fiddler James Scott Skinner (1843-1927) in his home town of Banchory in Aberdeenshire. Skinner’s music is well-known in Donegal.
Master of ceremonies on Friday night will be one of Scotland’s most famous fiddlers, Paul Anderson.
The line-up also includes string duo Orsolya Szabo-Yélamo (violin) and Victor Yélamo (cello); leading Donegal players Seamus Gibson, Caoimhin MacAoidh and Martin McGinley; and three up-and-coming players from Letterkenny music school Ceol na Coille, Fiadh Davies, Muireann Nic Aoidh, and Gráinne Friel.
Martin McGinley, who’s helping to organise the concert, said they were delighted to have so many top players involved.
“Scott Skinner’s music is still very much alive in Donegal and it’s great to be able to contribute to the Statue Fund,” he said.
“The response of Donegal musicians has been brilliant and we’ve also had the support of the Donegal fiddle organisation Cairdeas and of the Regional Cultural Centre.”
The concert will last 90 minutes, including a short interval.
