More than twenty notices placed on vacant properties

DONEGAL County Council has placed more than twenty notices on properties in and around Letterkenny as part of their work to tackle the growing problem of derelict and vacant units.

With grant funding now available to refurbish such properties, the local authority are aiming to purchase a number of these and bring them back into use as homes. This they hope will encourage other potential homeowners to do the same.

While the Donegal News reported just before Christmas that notices had been attached to a number of derelict/vacant properties at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny, the council have provided details of the number of such notices issued.

“To date we have affixed 23 notices to properties in Letterkenny and issued 15 letters as part of our work programme to address vacancy and dereliction,” the council stated.

In a move to progress the scheme, the council have asked that anyone with information about the ownership of the properties with the notices attached, get in touch with them by the end of January 2024.
