More than €400,000 worth of cannabis herb found in vehicle in Castlefinn

ONE man remains in garda custody after last night’s discovery of more than €400,000 of cannabis herb in a van in Castlefinn.

The seizure was made shortly after 8pm at a petrol station in the centre of the town as a result of an intelligence led operation involving the Garda National Drug Unit, Customs Revenue Enforcement Officers, and the Divisional Drug Unit, Donegal.

A man, who is in his early 30s, was arrested and is currently detained under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996 in Letterkenny Garda Station.

Investigations are continuing.

The latest find comes just three weeks after cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €360,000 were discovered, along with other items made and adapted for the growth and cultivation of cannabis, during a search at a premises in Ballybofey.

Four Malaysian nationals, three women and a man, have been charged in connection with the discovery of the cannabis factory at a Chinese restaurant on Navenny Street, Ballybofey.

The search was conducted by members of the Letterkenny Drugs Unit as part of an ongoing investigation targeting cannabis cultivation in Donegal.
