PEOPLE living on their own in Letterkenny and surrounding areas have been invited to join others for dinner on Christmas Day.
This year marks the ninth annual Christmas Day Dinner for people who have no one locally to spend the day with. It was first organised by Kathy O’Connor in 2005 and has gone from strength to strength since.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week, Ms O’Connor said she is deligted to confirm that this year’s Christmas dinners have been sponsored by the Radisson Blu hotel in Letterkenny.
“From the first year of the Christmas dinner the Radisson have been an enormous support. It is great to hear from them that they will sponsor all the dinner this year.”
Ms O’Connor added that the demand this year is expected to surpass that of previous years.
“The first year we held the Christmas dinner we had ten people. This year we expect to have a minimum of 90 people.”
It will be held in the Conwal Parish Hall, behind the Church of Ireland on Christmas Day from 1pm until 4pm. Encouraging people to attend, Kathy O’Connor explained: “The purpose of the event is to help people who are living on their own to break through isolation and loneliness on the day, to provide company and celebration.”
She explained that transport can also be provided if required.
