ALMOST 550 social houses within eleven different development projects are being built or planned in and around Letterkenny.
In response to a query from Cllr Ciaran Brogan on the council’s social housing plans and funding for the Letterkenny/Milford Municipal District, the council provided an update which outlines the status of different developments which will see 541 houses built.
The cost of the houses is estimated at €539m, excluding those being built by Cluid, the housing charity.
A development of 11 houses at Killylastin is at construction stage with the project scheduled to be completed in the first three months of next year at a cost of €4 million.
There are 21 houses currently under construction at Windyhall through a turnkey acquisition costing €5.5 million.
At Oran Hill in Letterkenny construction works on 30 social houses is due to start in July costing €9 million.
In Tamney a development of ten houses has received Part 8 Planning approval. Design is being advanced and specialists consultants have been procured.
The tender for this work is expected to advertised towards autumn of this year.
The projected cost at this stage is €3.1 million. A development of 20 houses in Kilmacrennan is at preliminary design stage with an estimated budget of €6.3 million.
There are plans to build 14 social houses in the Oldtown area of Letterkenny at a cost of €4.6 million.
The current status of this development is that initial site surveys and investigations are being progressed which will then inform design which will be presented to members.
A large development of 161 houses at Ballymacool is at the stage of architect tenders being assessed with letters of intent to issue and formal appointment of consultants to take place later this month or next month.
The cost of this development is estimated in the region of €49 million.
Another large flagship development planned for Letterkenny is that at the High Road which will see the construction of 142 social houses estimated to cost circa €43.6 million.
It is anticipated tender documents will be ready to go out in the latter half of this year.
A turnkey acquisition of 90 houses in Letterkenny is currently with An Bord Pleanala for decision which is estimated to cost €26 million.
A development of 90 social houses under a turnkey scheme at Glencar is currently with An Bord Pleanala for decision.
The estimated cost for this development is €26 million.
Cluid, the housing charity, is to build 18 houses at Ard na Greine, 14 houses at Ardrawer and ten houses in Letterkenny.
Costings for the Cluid houses are not included in the council’s data.
