More community welfare clinics could close – Dept.

THE Department of Social Protection has strongly defended its decision to close the local Community Welfare Clinic in St Johnston.
Sinn Féin County Councillor, Cora Harvey, described the closure of the clinic at St Johnston Resource Centre on Wednesday as another “attack on rural Donegal”.

The clinic, which was open for just one hour per week, has now been amalgamated with the Letterkenny office.
The Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) scheme is administered by the department’s Community Welfare Service through 19 officers working from 34 clinics around the county.
