Donegal 0-19 Mayo 1-15
Ciaran Moore struck a last-gasp winner for Donegal at Dr Hyde Park today to secure a home preliminary quarter-final for his side.
Donegal started well and were 0-3 to 0-1 up when Peadar Mogan was black-carded for a trip.
Mayo scored the next three points but Donegal were dominant in the second quarter, and Oisin Gallen, Conor O’Donnell, and Finnbarr Roarty pointed late in the half.
HT: Donegal 0-9 Mayo 0-6
Mayo were much improved in the third quarter and a David McBrien goal saw them move two ahead in the 56th minute.
The Donegal response was good as Daire Ó Baoill landed a two-pointer, and Michael Murphy and Shane O’Donnell followed up with scores.
Shaun Patton was busy in the second half but a Murphy ’45’ had Donegal two ahead after 67 minutes before Ryan O’Donoghue and Fergal Boland levelled matters.
A draw would have been good enough to send Mayo through to the knock-out stages but Moore had other ideas and kicked a wonderful winner.
Donegal will find out who they play next week when the draw is made on RTÉ Radio 1 tomorrow morning.
