‘Moonfest’ raises €1,050 in memory of Ramelton musician

THE third annual ‘Moonfest’ fundraiser in memory of Ramelton musician Paul Mooney has raised €1,050 for Raphoe Pastoral Bereavement Counselling Service, which continues to support his family.

Mr Mooney (30), late of Glen Lower, died in a two-car collision on the N14 Letterkenny to Lifford road at Carrickballydoey on December 18, 2023. Paul’s partner, Nicolle, and the driver of the other vehicle were injured in the crash.

Friends and family of the late Mr Mooney gathered at The Cottage Bar in Letterkenny on Saturday, February 21, to celebrate ‘Moonfest’ and share memories of a much-loved musician.

The event started out as a way to remember Mr Mooney, and it has quickly evolved into a small independent festival that Paul himself would have loved to have been part of.

It was a night of celebration, great atmosphere and great music with some well-known names and some new acts.

The late Paul Mooney.

Mr Mooney’s family and friends say they are “forever grateful to those who took part: Taylor Southern, who studied music with Paul in Manchester and who travelled from Liverpool for the event; Beware the Beast, Klyda, Cora Harkin, Banyah, The Ephades and Boy M5 –Mr Mooney’s own band, as well as Paul Jarvis for his DJ set.

“Thanks to Jack Redmond for MC duties, Kyle O’Neill for arranging the night, Aisling Jarvis for the sound production, Clare McCahill for the photography, Ria O’Neill for the poster artwork, Kayleigh Bowery for the visuals and décor, Niamh Mc Daid Callaghan for collecting and managing the bucket all evening and, of course, to Conall McGonigle and his team in The Cottage Bar for providing the venue and their generous donation,” said a family spokesperson.

“The night is organised as a charity event and the chosen recipients this year is the Raphoe Pastoral Bereavement Counselling Service, which has been a great help to the Mooney family since Paul’s sudden untimely passing.

“A total sum of €1,050 was donated on the night; thanks to all who contributed.”
