Michael’s family would like to inform you that the months mind for Michael McGrath RIP has been changed to Friday 9th March at 7.30 in Church of the Irish Martyrs due to the forecasted bad weather.
Michael, 40, sadly passed away at the Donegal Hospice after being diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer late last year.
Doctors told the former St Eunan’s teacher that surgery was not an option, and a revolutionary cancer treatment in Vienna might be his only chance at survival.
After an incredible effort from communities across Donegal and further a field, a massive €167,000 was raised for the father of one to travel to Austria for the treatment.
Michael made his first trip to Vienna, with his wife Susan and his sisters, in December to undergo the Immunotherapy treatment. Doctors were pleased with how well he responded and he returned to spend a family Christmas with his young son, Senan. He returned to Vienna in early January in high spirits, however in an emotional statement released by the family, he flew back to Donegal to spend his remaining time with his family.
He is survived by his father, Pat, mother Mary, sisters Bernadette and Mary and his brother Anthony. Sincere sympathies from all at the Donegal News are extended to his family, friends and wider circle.
