THE Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Right Reverend Dr Trevor Gribben, has offered his congratulations to President-Elect Catherine Connolly, who will become the 10th President of Ireland and only the third women to hold the office.
Assuring her of his prayers, Dr Gribben said: “On behalf of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, I would like to congratulate Mrs Connolly on her election as Uachtarán na hÉireann. From her election as a city councillor in Galway just over a quarter of a century ago, to her time as Mayor of Galway and then TD for Galway West, along with her subsequent election as Dáil Éireann’s Leas-Cheann Comhairle, the first woman to be its deputy chair, she has demonstrated her commitment to public service.
“On the cusp of assuming Ireland’s highest office, Mrs Connolly and her family can be assured of my prayers and those of many of my brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.”
