Mixed reaction to new traffic lights

A Letterkenny councillor has said the major traffic delays being experienced in and around parts of the town this week have been caused by motorists attempting to avoid the new traffic light system on the Polestar Roundabout.

Long tailbacks were reported on different routes around the town, even at off-peak times, since the lights were switched on at the Polestar Roundabout on Tuesday afternoon.

There was much frustration as motorists found themselves caught in long delays and many people have taken to social media to vent their anger at the changes.

But Cllr. Donal Coyle said many drivers who have taken different routes into town to avoid the roundabout may not be helping the overall traffic flow around Letterkenny.

This week we spoke to business owners, a taxi driver, a school principal and the public to get their views on the new traffic lights.
