‘Mixed’ forecast for bank holiday weekend

THE bank holiday weekend will bring mixed weather conditions, with dry but some chilly spells.

Met Éireann have forecast that temperatures today will reach between 15 and 15 degrees with light easterly winds. It will be a dry day, with just the slight chance of an isolated shower.

There will be a good chance of cloud however, with some occasional sunny spells.

Met Éireann have warned that it will be chilly overnight into Friday with temperatures of just one to four degrees. Some mist patches are possible.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Emer Flood, Meteorologist, said Friday will be another dry day, widely sunny to begin with after any mist clears.
“However cloud will build from later morning and in the afternoon interspersed with some hazy spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees. Light easterly breezes.”

It will likely turn cloudier on Friday evening or early Friday night.

There’s a good possibility it will remain dry through the early parts of the night, however some light rain or drizzle may develop later overnight. Overnight lows of six to eight degrees are forecast.

The weekend will bring some uncertainty, mainly around the timing and extent of rain or drizzle.

“It is looking like Saturday will be cloudy to overcast, and there is a good chance that rain will develop from Saturday morning that could be persist for much of the day.

The rain will likely break up, turning into patchy drizzle later in the day, with some brighter breaks possible in the cloud cover. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees, possibly milder locally under any sunny breaks.

Moderate southerly winds will develop, fresh near the coast.

Sunday

“Continuing rather cloudy overnight with patchy light rain or drizzle likely. A mild night under cloudy skies, with overnight lows of eight to 10 degrees.”

Ms Flood said current indications suggest a mostly cloudy start to Sunday, with some outbreaks of drizzle.

“The best chance of any drier and brighter weather will be later in the day, however duller conditions with some drizzle may persist locally. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees. Light westerly winds.”

Early indications for bank holiday Monday are showing that there will be dry and bright periods but some showers are possible too.

“Temperatures around average for early May,” said Ms Flood.
