A NORTHERN Ireland man has been found safe and well following an overnight search in Inishowen, it has been confirmed.
A search was initiated for the man (58), from the Belfast area, at around 12.30am in the early hours of this morning after he failed to return to his camper van, which was parked near Banba’s Crown, Malin Head.
It is understood the keys were in the ignition and the man’s belongings were in the vehicle.
A spokesperson for Malin Head Coast Guard said it launched a search for the man, tasking the 116 rescue helicopter from Dublin, as well as Greencastle Coast Guard and the Lough Swilly RNLI.
They were joined by Gardai and a members of the local community amid fears he had fallen into the water.
However, at 10.30am this morning, the man was found safe and well in a field close to Malin Head. It is believed he had been sleeping under a hedge. The man was later assessed by medical personnel but is understood to be well.
