Over 100 drivers in Donegal failed to attend their scheduled driving tests between January and July this year, according to new figures from the Road Safety Authority.
The 102 motorists who missed their appointments collectively lost out on €8,670 in fees according to the Irish Independent.
Nationwide, 6,441 drivers failed to show up for their driving tests in 2023, despite paying the €85 fee.
This has sparked concern, as the average number of no-shows has risen to 692 per month this year.
For motorists in Donegal, the wait for a driving test continues to be a lengthy one, with the RSA warning that some drivers may not be able to book their tests until early 2025.
This extended delay is causing frustration for learner drivers in the county, especially in a rural area where driving is often essential for daily life.
The high number of missed tests adds to the strain on the system, further delaying appointments for others and contributing to already lengthy waiting times.
