FINN HARPS 2-3 DROGHEDA UNITED
IT was another miserable night for Finn Harps tonight, as Drogheda United came from behind to claim the spoils in Ballybofey.
Ollie Horgan’s team were relegated on Saturday night when Sligo Rovers defeated Derry City, and a sloppy second half cost them against Drogheda, who will also drop down to the First Division next season.
Harps got off to a great start when Caolan McAleer curled in an excellent shot after 53 seconds.
Danny Morrissey really should have doubled their lead in the 35th minute but he scuffed his close range shot.
HT: Harps 1-0 Drogheda
Morrissey was in the thick of the action again after the restart but he missed a glorious opportunity, and then struck the crossbar in the 57th minute.
Harps were left to rue those misses when Chris Mulhall equalised in the 61st minute.
Gareth Harkin went close for Harps before Thomas Byrne put the visitors in front with a fine curling effort in the 73rd minute.
The home side did pull a goal back in injury-time when Caolan McAleer scored his second, but it wasn’t enough and Drogheda secured their first league win since April.
